El Cortijo (The Andalusian villa)

Cortijo is the spanish name of an andalusian farmhouse. La Casería del Carmen was one of the manor houses in the area of La Alpujarra and it’s described in the book “Cortijos, haciendas y lagares. Provincia de Granada“.

Origin of the rural house

It is believed that the house was built in the 18th century but it did not belong to the family until 1929, when they purchased the manor house and several surrounding lands.

It was their holiday house, and they have been improving it for the last 20 years. It wasn´t until 2017 when they decided to share the house with guests from many countries of the world looking for tranquility and authenticity.

You can find two old pictures, more than 80 years old, of the main entrance and its comparison with the present. As you can see things have changed but not so much!

About Accommodation

Our rural house is an old andalusian villa (dating from the 18th century) that has been totally renovated. It's located at the south of Granada, a few minutes away from the Mediterranean sea. It's a perfect rural house and space to share with your family or friends.

Surrounded by mountains and far away from touristic places, la Casería del Carmen has a private pool, three floors and a lot of open space in nature. Our guests get really fascinated by the strong andalusian character of the house and its small details. That's why we say that is a house that can make you travel to the past.
